Music against corruption in South Africa

Ngeke! Festival is a free South African music festival bringing young artists and communities together against corruption. The 2026 edition takes place on 7 November at The Nest in Johannesburg. Explore the artist lineup, discover Fair Play’s anti-corruption music initiative, and find ways to participate through music, community conversation and the Ngeke! pledge.

What music can and cannot do

Corruption can feel distant until a song connects it to everyday experience: unreliable services, unfair opportunities or a loss of trust. Lyrics and live performances give people a way to discuss those concerns together. A cultural event creates space for conversation and participation; it does not replace investigations, public accountability or the work of institutions.

What a festival can honestly offer is a place to gather, hear young artists and South African music broadly, and leave with a clearer sense of what you want to do next, such as signing the pledge or learning where official channels are.

About Ngeke! 2026

Ngeke! is a free South African music festival against corruption. It takes place on 7 November 2026 at The Nest, 39 Voorhout Street, New Doornfontein, Johannesburg, 2094. It puts young artists and community participation at the centre. Free tickets are provisional: one WhatsApp reply confirms your place, and there is no second confirmation the day before.

Explore the current Ngeke! artist lineup for published performers and hosts, or visit previous festival editions to discover earlier appearances. Each edition has its own artists, date and venue; an appearance at an earlier festival does not announce a performance in 2026.

Fair Play and the wider music initiative

Fair Play is a global anti-corruption music initiative. Its official 2026 South Africa call invited musicians aged 18 to 35 to submit original songs or music videos addressing corruption and injustice. The published deadline was 14 September 2026, so that call is now closed. For future opportunities and current terms, consult the official Fair Play South Africa page.

A historical record from 2025

As historical context only: a 23 October 2025 release from the EU Delegation to South Africa independently documents Ngeke! 2025 at Constitution Hill on 6 December 2025. It names FairPlay winners Onset Music Group, Xtreem Makhayeni with Zoë Modiga, and BCUC. Read the EEAS press release. That support relates to 2025 and should not be assumed for 2026.
