The story

BCUC — Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness — is a seven-piece band from Soweto. Formed in 2003, the collective draws on indigenous traditions, church songs, shebeen music, South African jazz and a rebellious rock-and-roll attitude.

Percussion, bass and voices drive a sound that moves between funk, punk, kwaito, hip-hop and ritual rhythms. The band calls it Afro-psychedelic: music rooted in community, spirituality and the realities of everyday life.

BCUC performed at Ngeke! Festival's first edition in 2025, bringing their uncompromising live energy to a gathering dedicated to speaking out against corruption and injustice.
